| THE
BULL HISTORY
About
one hundred and fifty years ago George Bright was
the Proprietor of the Bull Public House at Shepperton.
The Bull, now situated on the corner
of Sheepwalk and Laleham Road, was originally situated
some 200 years back in Sheepwalk, close to where the
flyover crosses the M3 Motorway
The original building was demolished and the pub now
stands in the present location.
The Bull derives its name from the
Coat of Arms of the Wood family, who were lords of
the manor of Littleton from the late 17th century
to the late 19th century. By 1839, the Bull had already
become one of the most popular pubs in Shepperton
and was listed in Piggots Directory for that year.
The mid 1800's saw the popularity
of the pub increase under the proprietorship of George
Bright.
The Bull's main customers were the
employees and tenants of the Wood family, whose land
almost encircled the area where the pub was sired.
Shepperton was well known in
the district for its abuldance of gurrying sheep.
Not surprisingly the Bull became a focal point and
meeting place for shepherds as well as passing drovers
who rested and partook of refreshments at the pub.
